When I started playing bass guitar about 16 years ago, I was cutting my teeth on classic rock and blues records. The first time I heard Bob Marley I loved it right off the bat. Concrete Jungle is my fav tune (who says a jazz bass cant hold it down) and his "Babylon by Bus" live album is still up there with the Allman Brothers for me. When I moved to Okinawa in 2002 I met a guitar player from Cali (Joel Byrum) that played something that blew my mind. It came in the form of Lee Scratch Perry, followed by King Tubby. (I dropped my whole Air Force pay check at Tower Records that payday on Dub Reggae). I will stop short of writing a book, but I want to say, I wish I could hear more of people's influences in their music, the inspiration they pull from the many genres into their own sound. This album was me, a Fender P bass, Gibson SG, Gibson Les Paul Menace, a MicroKorg, and my voice through an sm57. I made the tracks all in Ableton. Then mixed live with Aurex' Ableton mix racks i modified into a Victor KD-05 cassette deck into a cheap 20 minute tape. Lots of mistakes and imperfections but this was so much fun to do. This was what intrigued me about dub was the live mixing aspect of it. I learned so much about Ableton along the way and saved many of the effects racks I made, and tweaked and some drum kits. I hit some reggae in this, some downtempo, and some ambient/electronic elements. Weird but I just let the music flow instead of saying only dub. Can't wait to fail out loud again. Love the Process.....I truly do....as always... #Pushin #Relentless in everything #ididntComeHereToHireOnAsAHand
